after reading forum member sc8forever has to say concerning iDREAM and S Club 8, it kind of brought back the old feelings about the SC8 split. honestly, it's been 5 years since they split up and there's nothing we could've done back then. but i might have some ideas how S Club 8 could have longer staying power:
1 way is 'conformity'. considering the mid-2000s had rock charting instead of pop (in the UK.), SC8 would have to drastically change their sound, looks, and concept. their sound would have to be punk/rock or pop/rock. their looks would be punk or near-emo. and, if they want to, ditch the dance routines and play instruments. but when electo-pop becomes the trend during the late-2000s, SC8 would conforms to the trend. they basically go back to the old concept. SC8 might lose some fans, but they might gain more fans this way...and maybe even respect.
another way is radical: replacing members. if this might sound similar to sugababes, well here's how it should go. keep the members who want to remain in SC8, but replace the other members who want out of the band. this might keep the group going, but if the band ends up with 1 original member, they'll lose a lot of fans. and if that original member leaves, that's the end of SC8.
the 3rd way is both 1 and 2.
whichever way SC8 does, SC8 will lose staying power if they last longer than 10 years.
but like i said, it's been said and done. there's nothing we can do. maybe S Club 8 could make a comeback next year or 2012, but we'll see.

I'm not sure pop/rock would have suited them, but I agree, maybe they could have played their own instruments, or had more of a say with the songwriting. I'm not sure I agree with replacing members, I loved them as they were, and I'm not sure how a new member would fit in with the dynamics of the group, what with there being 8 of them. I think a better way to help them stay longer was to promote them more, because if you look at the performance list here, during the together phase, they did loads of performances of each single, whereas by DTMYS, they only did a few, and that was mainly on kids' shows. They could have branched out more, maybe done another tour because I would have loved to see them do one on their own, rather than just with S Club.

that's true, S Club 8 was promoted properly in the beginning. then towards DTMYS, they were barely promoted. i wouldn't mind seeing them go on tour, but i live in usa. hey, i wouldn't if they came to america!
like i said, the 'replacing members' idea wouldn't be popular. look how sugababes are! the only good thing about replacing the members would be longevity...but it's at the expense of everyone.
yeah, if SC8 had more creative freedom, who knows what they'll produce! for all we know, some of the members could've written great songs!
