I'm with you Penny. It's easier for me to talk and meet new people. And it makes everything 10 times funnier which is a laugh.
I hate that people who don't drink judge those who do and think they drink because 'everyone else does' or because 'they can't have fun without it' I drink because I CHOOSE to, not becasue I want to look cool, and I can have fun without it. Sometimes though an occasion just calls for a drink (or 5)

Well, I am 17, and I didn't start drinking until I was 16 almost 17( a month and half before my birthday). Virtually everyone else I know started years before I did. Still, I didn't drink until I felt ready. I think that is pretty sensible. I started much later than most people, and it is not like I do on a regular basis. So, I don't think there is anything wrong with what I am doing. Also, all my friends are between the ages of 16 and 19, do you really think that we aren't going to drink sometimes? Of course it is not the only way to have fun. Of course I don't think that at all. However, it is fun sometimes.

The media plays a part in it too. I'm constantly hearing that drinking is bad, blah, blah blah, alcoholic, oh blech! I'm thinking loosen up!

Me and my friends are actually under age and they drink all the time. I admit, I drink too but not enough so that I'm totally wasted and make a fool of myself.

IMO there's a difference between getting completley drunk just to have 'fun' than having one or two drinks. Some people think that maybe having one or two is fun...that doesn't mean they can't have fun without it.

I turn 18 in november and I can't wait. I only ever drink at family parties. I want to wait till i'm 18 to drink with my friends. I know my limits as well. I am juts worried because a lot of my friends get seriously drunk where as i just have a couple of drinks and am a little merry.

I've just turned 18 and people expect me to be out every single night getting drunk it's bizarre. Yes I go out and yes I do drink but, I know my limits and I'll more often have fun without drinking. It's your body, do what you want with it as long as you don't harm others

Well i turn 18 on Wednesday...and most likely going to be drinking on Friday but as Alex said as long as you know your limits and don't harm anyone i don't see the problem with it.

I know my limits. Sometimes I like to push them though.

It's your body, do what you want with it as long as you don't harm others Yes, as much as it can be fun to drink, sometimes you have more fun without drinking. Personally, I still like to be able to control myself, when I do go a little too far, I've never done anything "bad" when having too many drinks, but when your senses come back, you can sometimes wish you had behaved just a little more like your normal self. But I do for the most part do not lose control, I've seen what my friends can do having too much to drink, and I feel like I would never let myself get so drunk, given the chance I would do something I would definitely regret. That worries me, acting silly, flirting a little bit more and just being more let loose and random, I think is fine. It is when you do something you would never dream of doing sober when you utterly can't judge between what you feel is going to help/hinder yourself, you can't see or even comprehend the consequences. That is immensely dangerous. I've seen people go against all the morals and principals they believe in when they are sober, when being drunk. This motivates me to be alert, and to stay away from the deep end of the pool, if you stay in a more shallow part of the pool, you still feel refreshed, but without having to strain your body to keep afloat. I have friends who given their choice, would party/drink all the time if they could. I could never do that, or want to. I don't see how that is fun. Every so often it makes for a fun time, but I can't imagine you would enjoy drinking that much, it would just become routine, which it is not healthy in the slightest, and I think you would be much unhappier.
