:(It really scares me this global warming thing. I try to do my bit, my family is quite good at recycling but my dad seems to think there nothing wrong with leaving the computer and the laptop on all night! Then he says they dont waste much energy but surely the less energy used the better!

Did you know that recycling one aluminium can can power a TV for 3 hours? It's true. I learnt it today

It's been getting increasingly hot over here in north cali, where it used to NEVER go past 65 degrees, we broke 78 degrees last year, and we're expected to break 80 this summer >.< (Fahrenheit) We also had hurricane force winds about a year ago, which tore out even some of the REDWOOD trees that grew here, and took the city 2 months to recover from the storm, and because the West Coast of NA doesn't have a name for hurricane, (such as typhoon, etc) as we never have them, they just called it a thunderstorm. Global Warming is getting worse and worse, though, I found it interesting the ice caps are melting, though, I'm still a bit curious why when they do melt, the water level will rise, when water doesnt rise if you put ice in it and let it melt, because the ice itself weights enough to raise the water level to the point it would be at if it melted...

Global warming scares the crap out of me. I know some people say there's no proof it even exists but why would the media be making such a big deal out of it if it didn't exist?
I mean I panic if I can't recycle a piece of paper.

global warming is really affecting the way i think too. california's weather has been going whacko and recently my friend told me that hong kong will be affected and there will be no more winter in 2008 [?] and i kind of wanna stay in hong kong for awhile. there have been many organizations and tips to prevent global warming, and 'life is wild' is promoting prevention of it too. i hope it doesn't get too out of hand! as long as everyone does their part to help..

2008? I think they may be pulling your leg. I mean the changes will affect us, and with humans negative impacts they are being accelerated, but not that much.

It's debateable whether Global Warming exists, at present it's just a theory. Earth has gone through several warming stages already hence the Ice Ages, climate is also dependant on the Earth's orbit, whether it moves closer to the sun or not.
I'm still not sure it exists because there are arguements either side but, I recycle anyway because it doesn't hurt too.

Same here, IMO I don't care that people whine that global warming doesn't exist - I'll do my part anyways, thanks, I'm obsessed with recycling anyways. The way I see it, there is no solid evidence to prove whether it exists or not, but isn't it better to be safe than sorry?

I heard that the hole in the ozone layer is closing a bit that means we're actually making a difference

I so have been learning about this in geoscience! Ok, so, yes the temperature of the earth is rising. But, we're also moving into an interglacial (warmer)stage of an ice age. On average, the world has been about 5 degrees warmer thouhtout history than it is now. However in saying that, the rate of carbon emissions produced by humans, and the rate of urbanisation, is affecting the rate of the earths temperature. But you know what, it's not as big of a deal as everyones making it out to be. And the media - pfffft, what would they know, seriously? I never believet the media. Don't believe the hype! Theyre saying "COOL THE GLOBE, COOL THE GLOBE", but you can't just cool the globe!! You can't instantly, if ever, stop sometin thats been happening for billions of years! So, yes I think we should all be a bit more sustainable, becasue the earth is precious and yes, we are ruining it. But I'm so over all this global warming crap. And that is my educated opinion

...then don't die?
Another thing that affects the earths climate is the suns sunspot actitivy. They affect the magnetic feild on the earth, and it has been proven that during times of high sunspot activity, the earths climate has been higher. So, when you combine this with ice ages etc, you'll see that glabal warming isn't as bad as people are making it out to be, although we should begin to be more sustaible becasue humans are accelerating and exaggerating the effects.
