I got this off Wiki Nerd as a stereotypical, archetypal and frequently used informally as a derogatory designation, refers to a person who passionately pursues intellectual or esoteric knowledge or pastimes rather than engaging in social life, such as participating in organized sports or other mainstream social activities. The Merriam-Webster definition is an "unstylish, unattractive, or socially inept person: especially: one slavishly devoted to intellectual or academic pursuits." While Nerd, Dork and Geek share in passionate pursuit of detailed knowledge, the Australian colloquialism dag shares the association with the unfashionable and socially inept with the added feature of being affable and amusing. A nerd is often excluded from physical activity, and is often considered a loner by peers. The word geek has recently come to be used to refer to a person who is fascinated by knowledge and imagination, usually electronic or virtual in nature. The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines the word geek as "1: a carnival performer often billed as a wild man whose act usually includes biting the head off a live chicken, bat or snake 2: a person often of an intellectual bent who is disliked 3: an enthusiast or expert especially in a technological field or activity". The American Heritage Dictionary's 1976 edition included only the first of those definitions.

I don't seem like one, but don't judge a book by it's cover! I love reading, my computer, researching and all of those things! Every once in awhile my friends make fun of me for my geeky ways, they forget sometimes because I look more girly-girlish and not "nerdy". So when I say something geeky, they start laughing. I always know bits of information no one else really cares about, haha! Some of my friends and I are friends with the "geeky" guys at schoo, they're not actually though, they're actually really smart and funny! And some of our other friends make fun of us for hanging around with "the nerds". But, they're not, they're really cool and interesting.

i wish i was a geek sometimes cos geeks have such good friends that they know are true....being like 'popular' (if you call it that) you have to watch what you say, wear,do etc and i never know who my true friends are...

I'm not all for the labels but I will totally except it if someone calls me a geek or a nerd because that may be their perception of me and I'm proud of who I am.
A geek story: We have to study Sci Fi in Film Studies because our teacher loves it. I am the only one who is excited about it and everyone else moans. So I got into an argument with some people because Sci Fi is brilliant and they all hate it. Then I showed just how much of a Sci Fi geek I was by doing the Star Trek hand thing and saying hello to them in Klingon. Haha.
